Ring of Honor today confirmed our predictions and officially announced Adam Cole v Matt Hardy for ‘Final Battle 2012’ next month at the Hammerstein Ballroom.
Surprisingly, the match will not be for Cole’s ROH World TV title. Whether this has been done to make the end result more unpredictable or so that Hardy can go over remains to be seen but the gold will definitely not change hands in New York.
At “Death Before Dishonor X” in Chicago Ridge, Hardy commentated on Cole’s TV title defence against Mike Mondo and took a keen interest in the former Future Shock member. After Cole won the match, Hardy hit the ring and after shaking the hands of both Mondo and Cole, got on the mic. He told Cole that he is sick of the comparisons between the two; that he was better than him at his age and that he’s still better than him now.
That, of course, did not sit well with Cole. On this week’s edition of ROH on SBG, we learned that Cole – who has been TV champion since beating Roderick Strong in June – had gone to ROH officials and demanded a match against Hardy. His request has been met and the two will go one-on-one on December 16 at ROH’s biggest show of the year – ‘Final Battle 2012’.
Will Cole show that he is one of the hottest young properties in professional wrestling today and beat a man with an incredible pedigree or will Hardy – a multiple time tag team champion in WWE – use his years of experience to come out on top? We’ll find out next month.
