Daniels Defends Against El Generico

It was today announced that “The Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels will defend his ROH World TV Title at ‘Best In The World’ in New York City against “The Generic Luchador” El Generico.

This will be Daniels’ first defence since he beat Mike Bennett at ‘Defy or Deny’ back in March and his first title defence live on iPPV. He and El Generico have previous after Daniels turned on Generico and joined the House of Truth at ‘Honor Takes Center Stage: Chapter Two’. The two then faced off in a non-title grudge match which Generico was able to win with the Brainbuster. Another man who had a good claim to a title shot was Colt Cabana. Cabana was also a victim of the shocking Daniels turn in Atlanta and beat Daniels in non-title action at ‘Supercard of Honor VI’ but ROH Officials decided to give the opportunity to “The Generic Luchador” instead. Generico has had an action packed past 18 months and thoroughly deserves his shot at the title.

The TV Title was introduced last year and Eddie Edwards became the first ever champion after winning a tournament on ROH on HDNet. Edwards eventually dropped the belt to Christopher Daniels on HDNet in January and “The Fallen Angel” has held the title since then. April 4th marked the last ever episode of ROH on HDNet and with this, the future of the ROH TV Title was thrown into jeopardy. ROH Officials announced that until another TV deal was announced, Daniels wouldn’t be defending the belt. After Saturday’s massive announcement that ROH had been sold to Sinclair Broadcasting Group and that the new TV show would begin airing in September, ROH Officials quickly made it clear that the TV Title would start being defended again.

Ring of Honor will be on Broadcast Television from September and whoever comes out on top in New York City will be representing the title and the company as ROH returns to TV. Will El Generico capture his first bit of singles gold in ROH or will “The Fallen Angel” keep the gold in the House of Truth?
