Ring of Honor and the ROH World Champion Davey Richards have come to terms to extend Richards’ existing contract.
Richards capture the title at “Best In the World 2011” when he defeated his American Wolves teammate Eddie Edwards in the main event that many consider to be a “Match of the Year” candidate. Richards had won gold twice before in ROH, both times as a member of a tag team.
Richards first won gold when he and Rocky Romero, known as the No Remorse Corps, defeated the teams of Jimmy Jacobs and Tyler Black, Bryan Danielson and Austin Aries and BJ Whitmer and Brent Albright in an Ultimate Endurance match in January 2008. They would hold the belts until April when they lost to the Briscoes.
Richards once again won the tag team championship with Edwards as the American Wolves. They defeated Kevin Steen and El Generico in a “Tables Are Legal” match in March 2009, which aired later on HDNet. They held the belts until “Final Battle 2009” when, once again, the Briscoes won the title.
Richards has already defended the ROH World Title in a match against Tommy End in Barcelona, Spain on July 4. He is set to make his first defense of the title in Ring of Honor at the first Sinclair Broadcast Group television tapings Saturday August 13.
Richards tenure in Ring of Honor has already been a great success, but we’re excited to see where the future takes the champion.
