Two of the hardest hitters in the sport today collide, again, on August 13th.
Eddie Edwards and Michael Elgin originally met on the eve of ‘Manhattan Mayhem IV’. The ‘Defy or Deny’ event was the first half of a weekend double-shot that was destined go down in Ring of Honor history.
In the early part of 2011, the bullish Elgin had been strategically employed, by mentor Truth Martini, as a stopper. Martini used his negotiation skills to maneuver Elgin into match-ups against the biggest threats to, fellow HOT member, Roderick Strong’s World Championship.
That night, in Edwards’ home state of Massachusetts, Elgin pushed the American Wolves man to his absolute limit. The level of punishment, that Elgin dealt out to Edwards, made Eddie’s upset title win, the following evening, an even bigger surprise.
After rolling up Strong on March 19th, Edwards was able to hold onto the gold for three months. He went on to lose the title, to best friend and tag team partner Davey Richards, at ‘Best in the World 2011’. Richards, himself, will defend the Championship, against Strong, on this Chicago-based television taping.
These symmetrical bouts further the Wolves-HOT saga, that has rumbled on for several months. The Wolves got one up on the House, in Richmond, recently and the followers of the Book of Truth will be looking to reverse that trend, with the eyes of the world looking on.
Former Champion Edwards has expressed his respect for young Elgin’s physical prowess but, nevertheless, he predicts that he will once again break the unbreakable.
