Why I’m Excited for Best in the World

We were sent several really good articles by people expressing why they were excited for tonight’s ‘Best In The World’ iPPV. Here are a few snippets from each person who sent in their thoughts. Thanks again to all who did, here they are:

“For me, Ring of Honor has become the single wrestling company in the world to be excited about. While other companies are either distancing themselves or simply talking about being about wrestling; Ring of Honor is the company that is showing it week after week and month after month and when Ring of Honor returns to New York this Sunday afternoon, it will once again show the world that it doesn’t talk about making Wrestling Matter, it DOES make Wrestling Matter.

Runners run. Swimmers swim and Fighters fight. This Sunday, I will see two fighters fight for the right to be not just Ring of Honor World Champion but to be the Best in the World and that is something no other company in the world could possibly replicate.” – Ciaran O’Donnell

“This Sunday ROH Wrestling presents Best In The World 2011 live at the Manhattan Center (Hammerstein Ballroom) and on iPPV via gofightlive.tv. at 4:00pm. I’m excited for this show because I know ROH will go all out and prove that they are the best company in wrestling today. This show has a loaded card with the best wrestlers in the business today fighting to prove why they are the best in the world. The main buzz of this show is that every belt is on the line and pits some of the best wrestlers in the company against each other.

The TV Title match is Christopher Daniels with Truth Martini vs. El Generico and the Tag Team Belts will be defended in a four way Elimination Match with the Kings of Wrestling, Wrestling’s Greatest Tag Team, the All Night Express and the Briscoes. The main event of the night is World Champion Eddie Edwards vs. Davey Richards. The rest of the card has a returning Jay Lethal, the Embassy vs. Homicide, Colt Cabana vs Tommasso Ciampa and Steve Corino with Jimmy Jacobs vs. Michael Elgin with Truth Martini.

I’m most looking forward to the tag team title match. I believe it will be the match of the night because all four team are out to prove why there are the number one team in ROH and want to lead the tag division going into the TV tapings in September.” – Osvaldo Rivera Jr

“Best In The World. It truly describes what embodies ROH. The best pure wrestling in the world. Guys putting their heart and souls on the line to entertain the people that come to watch them each and every night. Guys, who would rather kill themselves then give up, all in pursuit of the one thing that only 15 men in the history of the company have had the privilege to say they have held, the Ring Of Honor World Title.

On June 26th, ROH will emanate from the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. “Best in the World 2011” will have a special 4pm start time. I write this knowing in a few hours time my ramblings will mean nothing. I, as well as many other wrestling fans, look at this card and mark out. It’s shaping up to be one of, if not the biggest show in the company’s history.

Whatever happens at “Best in the World” it will be a fantastic show. Will it live up to the hype? I think it will. ROH always delivers.” – Macklin Burns

““You see, there’s a lot of people right now in the world of wrestling playing a wrestler. Acting like a wrestler. Portraying a wrestler. That’s good and fine, but I am a wrestler. Understand me? See people want to talk about Ring of Honor World Title, ‘Davey Richards can be the first time double champion in Ring of Honor’…”

Spoiler alert, Davey Richards did not become the first time double champion in Ring of Honor. Despite what the people have been saying, Davey has yet to touch the gold. Davey was supposed to end Tyler Black’s reign in Toronto: that didn’t happen. Davey was supposed to end Roderick Strong’s reign in New York, and the Internet was wrong again.

Davey has heard these ‘best in the world’ chants, the ‘next world champ’ chants for a long time now. In New York, it may finally happen.

I’d say there are four matches absolutely worth your money. For Rhino/Homicide, your mileage may vary, but I’m not the biggest fan of what this match is going to be. The other two matches will be good, but nothing you can’t miss, although I admit I can’t wait to see Lethal again.

Are you ready for Best in the World? I am.” – Alexandria Torres

“Despite being a Ring of Honor fan, of many years standing, and the biggest American Wolves mark in the world, the guarantee of high-quality in-ring action and the promise of a tense showdown, between Eddie Edwards and Davey Richards, aren’t what excites me the most, about this show.

The unique selling point of this particular ROH event, for me, is the Hammerstein Ballroom. This 105-year-old former opera house, in the heart of New York City, has become known as one of the most emotive professional wrestling arenas on the planet. It is famed for having staged some of the more poignant moments in the sport’s great history, over recent years.

Ring of Honor returns to the Hammerstein Ballroom, breaking a long absence and looking to repeat the success of the company’s back catalogue of Hammerstein events (which includes ‘A New Level’, ‘Death Before Dishonor VI’ and ‘Final Battle 2008’).

The rich history of this unique venue is unquestionable and anyone with a true passion for professional wrestling should be excited, by what we are about to witness.

The magic of the Hammerstein setting has left an indelible mark on the wrestling world and, thanks to Ring of Honor, the tradition of great pro wrestling moments lives on.” – Dave Wood

“This pay per view, not only has one of the best match cards in wrestling today, it has the best build up through the Video Wires and through the stories. What the WWE and Impact Wrestling don’t understand is how to balance stories and wrestling, they just can’t do it, a story dies in my opinion when an Irish leprechaun appears in any sense. ROH doesn’t need leprechauns, it just kicks them to the side and says “We don’t need you, We’re better than lowering ourselves to you!” Some people say ROH is the third major wrestling company in the USA, I disagree, this PPV and this build up makes it the second best and if not in the near future, the driving force for Wrestling all across the world.

I can’t wait for the moment that bell goes and Bobby Cruise announces that first match, cause then I will know that Ring of Honor is in town and you know that you’re going to get some of the best wrestling in your entire life.

A not so wise man said about a different sport, “You can’t win anything with kids.” Ring of Honor proves this wrong, again and again and again.” – Edward Roberts

“This Sunday, ROH enters the a new chapter, a chapter where they show why they are the most must see company in wrestling today. Best In The World 2011 is ROH’s 4th iPPV of 2011, and promises to be the most must-see iPPV not just of 2011, but of the company’s illustrious history.

Headlining the event is a match which promises to be a bout of epic proportions, between long time partners in the American Wolves, Davey Richards and the champion Eddie Edwards. Both Richards and Edwards have been part of the ROH machine for a extended period of time now, but it is this bout which will signify their rise to power in the heavyweight division in ROH.

As a fan of wrestling, this ppv doesn’t just excite me, it doesn’t just make me feel like wrestling matters, it makes me realise that there are some people in the world who truly care about the sport and want it to thrive in the 21st century. I hope you all watch the iPPV and enjoy its greatness.” – Alex Kirkham
