Exclusive Interview with Eddie Edwards

Eddie Edwards became the first ever ROH Triple Crown winner when he defeated Roderick Strong to become the ROH World Champion at ‘Manhattan Mayhem IV’ back in March.

Edwards had formerly been ROH World Tag Team Champion with American Wolf partner Davey Richards and became the first ever ROH World TV Champion by winning a tournament on HDNet by beating, you guessed it, Davey Richards.

The Boston native debuted at ‘International Challenge’ back in 2006. Since then, he has became a firm ROH fans favourite by putting on some of the most memorable matches in ROH history.

He may have had his ROH World Title reign ended prematurely by Richards but Edwards is looking to become only the second two-time ROH World Champion and we were lucky enough to grab a few word with him, here’s the interview:

You’ve wrestled for other companies across but what makes ROH different to all the rest?

Eddie Edwards: I’d have to say the dedication of everybody in the locker room. It’s a real family atmosphere. We all want to show the world what ROH is and what we can do. We all take great pride in the product that is Ring of Honor.

You recently went on a tour of Japan, do you feel that your experiences overseas improves you as a competitor?

Most definitely. I was very lucky for the fact that I was able to stay over in the Pro Wrestling NOAH dojo for almost 5 months. It was a great experience and I enjoy every trip I make to Japan.

What are your thoughts on the Sinclair Broadcasting Group’s takeover of ROH?

I think its great. Its a new opportunity for us to put the product out to the masses. With Sinclair fully behind us I truly believe this is a new beginning for ROH

Are you pleased that you and your fellow roster members will be back on TV?

Of course I am. We all know what an asset TV is and we all know that Sinclair truly believes in our product, so we are very excited for the debut of the new tv show.

You’ve been in Ring of Honor a while now and became the companies first ever Triple Crown winner, how did that feel

Unbelievable. You look at the current roster and you look at the names that have been part of ROH, to be able to say I am the one and only triple crown champion in history, it’s a great feeling and a great honor.

You lost the World Title to your fellow Wolf Davey Richards. Was it hard to take onsomebody you’re so close to?

It was a difficult concept at first but me and Davey are true competitors. I was the one who wanted to face him because I truly believe he is the best in the world and I needed to prove to myself that I could go toe to toe with him and beat him. Unfortunately I didn’t win but I will have another chance at some point and I will be ready

You’ve achieved a lot of things so far in ROH, what else do you hope to achieve?

I want to go down in history as one of the best wrestlers to ever be a part of Ring of Honor. I also want to win back my world title!!

Winning the ROH World Title once is a very impressive feat. Austin Aries is the only man who has won it twice, can you become the second?

I am going to do everything and anything I can to make it happen

You face Roderick Strong at Death Before Dishonor IX in a ‘Ringmasters Challenge’ match. What are your thoughts on Roderick and are you confident of coming away with a win?

Roddy is an unbelievable athlete and wrestler. I know that it is going to be a war because anytime we step in the ring together we leave it all in the ring. I know he is training his ass off getting ready for it and so am I. I am confident in the end I will be able to leave NYC with the win

Are you hoping for a rematch with Davey for the World Title?

I am definitely open to it as I still have a lot to prove

Finally, do you have any words for the Ring of Honor fans?

I know I speak for every athlete in our locker room, we appreciate everybody who supports Ring of Honor, the fans are what makes ROH a truly unique product and experience. Thank you and continue supporting!!!!
