Exclusive Interview with Michael Elgin

The House of Truth had been searching for that one man for quite some time. The one man that could help the faction take on all comers. Somebody who was a powerhouse, somebody who was unbreakable.

Fortunately for Truth Martini and the HOT, they found that man in Michael Elgin. Little was known about Elgin when he first joined the House back at ‘Survival Of The Fittest 2010’. He went on to appear on ‘ROH on HDNet’ and has now solidified himself as a legitimate athlete in Ring of Honor.

Looks can be deceiving and with Elgin, they are. He may look like a heavyweight – somebody with incredible strength – and although he is, he also possesses amazing athleticism for a man his size. He has been in some great matches over the past year or so and we were fortunate to grab a few minutes with the man himself, here we go:

You’ve wrestled for other companies but what makes ROH different to all the rest?

Michael Elgin: I have wrestled for just about 100 companies and ROH is just an amazing atmosphere. I mean they have the best wrestlers in the world on one show. You are always learning something, and always have to be at your best to compete. It is an athlete’s dream and a true proving ground.

What are your thoughts on the Sinclair Broadcasting Group’s takeover of ROH?

I feel SBG truly has faith in ROH and all its talent, they have given us an opportunity that not one wrestler in the company will not step up to. I mean it’s an opportunity to show the world what ROH and all of the talent have to offer. It’s a great partnership and will only bring good things in the future.

You featured on the ‘ROH on HDNet’ TV show, did you enjoy that and are you glad that you’re now back on TV?

Being on HDNet was fun, but SBG is bringing ROH into more homes across North America than ever before. It’s a very exciting venture, and being able to do something you love for so many people is great, and I am blessed to be a part of ROH, and now SBG.

What would you say you bring to ROH that nobody else does?

Everyone in ROH brings so much to the table, but I feel my strength is my true attribute. I have shown I can do things that no one else can with my power game. I proved no matter what size you are I will pick you up and put you down.

The ROH fans have really been impressed with you so far despite you not being the ‘stereotypical ROH style’ of wrestler, does that mean a lot?

I mean what is a stereotypical ROH wrestler? I see it as someone who gives it there all, someone who will put everything on the line to be the best. I am no different – I want to be the best, and just want people see that I am driven and determined.

How much of an influence has Truth Martini been?

Truth Martini is a brilliant man, after years of trying he led Roderick to his first World Title, and now he is my guide to the light. Our dominance has already been shown, and will continue to shine in ROH. Truth Martini has shown me the truth that I need to know, that I need to embrace.

Has being in a successful faction like the House of Truth made it easier to settle in to a new company?

Being in the HOT has helped me settle in, we are dominant and people know that. Remember HOT is ROH, and there is nothing anyone can do about it.

You recently made your debut on TV in a great match against Eddie Edwards, was it nice to see yourself on national broadcast TV?

It was very nice to be able to watch myself on National Television. It brought a sense of accomplishment, that the last eight years of wrestling and the two years before that training meant something. And sharing that moment with a competitor like Eddie was an honor.

Many people have said that they would like to see you and Roderick Strong form a permanent tag team, is that something you’d be interested in?

If me and Roderick Strong teaming meant gold around my waist I am very interested. And there is no doubt we would accomplish that.

What are your aims for the future in ROH?

I aim for Gold, no matter what belt, no matter who is the champion they better watch out because I am coming for you.

Finally, do you have any words for the Ring of Honor fans?

ROH fans, keep up the support.  Buy the DVDs, go to the live events and watch us on an SBG network near you. Also @ROHMichaelElgin on twitter – follow me!

We’d like to thank Michael once again for taking some time out to chat to us, as he said, check him out on twitter to see what’s going on in the world of the ‘Unbreakable’ one.
