I know I'm not a MOD, but I hope this discussion about whether NYC is a good place or not won't get out of hand in a thread that is supposed to be about Davey Richards coming back at DBD X.

I'm happy he's returning, and looking forward to where the storyline with O'Reilly goes. Would looooove to see the Wolves reunite down the line and just rule the tag scene for a good year or so. Davey has always said it was the most enjoyable period of his career.

Yeah, is that's why New York is one of the most visited cities in the world? Why it is the setting of more movies and TV shows than any other city in America? Why it was chosen to be the home of the biggest New Years celebration in America? Why some of the biggest businesses in the world runs out of here. Why so many stars move here? Why our sports teams are some of the biggest in sports? And in the case of ROH, why it's held most of their biggest shows and have given them in biggest attendance number ever? Yeah nobody cares about New York except New Yorkers.

Said like a true New Yorker, which only proves my point. :D Lots of people visit Las Vegas too, doesn't mean they give a damn about what Las Vegas does or thinks about itself, does it? All of the above only means New York is useful as a tool, mostly for financial reasons, not that people care about it anymore than they would the spare tire in the trunk of their car. ROH would run every show in Boise, Idaho if it made them more money (and they wouldn't care about Boise beyond that either :) ). They go to New York because it makes them money, period. No one outside of New York thinks about New York because it has no relevance in their lives. No one wakes up wondering, or caring, what New Yorkers think or do anymore than they do any other city, except maybe where they live. It's 'just some big city', not 'the center of the universe' as in your header Sorry.

I'm pretty sure before ROH ever debuted in NY, they wanted to come here. And that was without the knowledge of knowing how money they would make or what size crowds they would draw. No matter what you or anyone says, NY is a hot attraction and I'm sure there are people who literally do wake up thinking about coming here. Hell, I'm sure there are people who has coming here, even just to visit, on their bucket list. And you can disagree with me, but I got millions of tourists coming here every year backing me up. :D

If they didn't think they were going to make money, I 100% guarantee you they would never have come. They care about making a buck, not hanging out with New Yorkers or because they 'care' about the city. Same reason they cancelled those two shows in North Carolina or wherever. If they aren't going to make money, they aren't going.

As to the 'people come to the city= they 'care' about the city, is like saying because someone visits the pyramids in Egypt or Chichen Itza in Mexico, they must 'care' about those countries. Of course not. They want to check out a site and it doesn't matter where it is. Put the Statue of Liberty in Baltimore, then people would go to Baltimore instead. It's not, "I feel like visiting New York, so I'll go see the Statue of Liberty' It's 'I feel like visiting the Statue of Liberty, so I'll go to New York.' I go to a grocery store because I need food, not because I 'care' about my grocery store. Now there might be some people that go to the store because they like the employees or ambiance and genuinely do 'care', but these are few and far between.

Hell, I've visited New York several times. I don't 'care' about New York itself. The things I wanted/needed just happened to have been there. I didn't go there because it's New York. Take it from someone on the outside, that is surrounded by people on the outside, the rest of the world by and large cares about New York about as much as they care about Miami, Salem, Albuquerque, or any other city: it's just a city. They don't hate it. They don't love it. It's just there.

And to put at least something on topic: I like mulkeybros idea about keeping Davey face to reunite the Wolves. It would keep Davey good, Eddie more relevant, and beef up the tag team division which needs beefing up badly. They could still do singles work now and then. Davey was happy with it. I never heard Eddie complain. And most people aren't yelling 'Crap, I gotta watch the Wolves again? That sucks." Also it would almost certainly be the last chance to see them if Davey finally retires for good, which seems to be in the air. And I get the impression if he walks away he's not coming back, unlike, say Terry Funk. ^_^

on NYC -

if you're in the wrestling business, you come to NYC because it is the place to be. of the 5 major promotions in the last 15 years, three have come to NYC (ECW, ROH, and WWE) and had some of their best and most legendary shows. of the two that didn't run in NYC regularly (WCW and TNA), you can attribute a lot of that to the WWE's dominance in the market.

people who hate on NYC hate on it because they're jealous. i'll say that plain and simple. NYC is the place where you go to be made, and it's the place you run from if you're whiny and can't stand the heat. if you're gonna come here, you better be on your "A game", because even B+ isn't good enough. like the song says - "if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere," so when you come to NYC, it's because you're aiming to make it.

as for Davey coming back, here's how i do it.

Davey comes out and says that while being gone, he's had a lot of time to think about what got him to the top of ROH, and why he wasn't there any more. and that he's returning to make amends and get back on top.

he also says that while he's no longer allowed to challenge Kevin Steen for the World Title, he's recruiting and surrounding himself with men who can, and together they're going to take out and destroy SCUM. that in his time away, he's reached out to the best ROH has to offer, and it's time for them to band together and save ROH.

first out, of course, is Eddie Edwards. they hug, they smile, and Eddie says "The Wolves are back in the hunt!"

Davey then says he's bringing out a man that he's been the best of friends with, and the worst of enemies with. "one of the few guys who's held the gold, one of the even fewer who's won the Triple Crown here in ROH..." and out comes Roderick Strong. he looks a little surprised, but once he steps in the ring, the three of them hug.

and finally, Davey says "if we're going to topple Steen and SCUM, we need to really know how that madman thinks. and there's only one person who's truly been inside that deranged mind...There's a language barrier, but we've worked through it..."

the crowd of course, is buzzing now....because they all know it's the return of El Generico.

the four stand in the ring together - Davey Richards, Eddie Edwards, Roderick Strong, and El Generico.

there's no way this doesn't get face pops galore, as it reunites the Wolves, turns Roddy back to being face, and brings back Generico.

it also sets up some fantastic matches and some incredible wars, not the least of which could be the return of 8 men fighting in a cage, presuming SCUM recruits one more person (O'Reilly would be my top choice)...

I absolutely love that idea, so much like Gabe used to book :)
Plus, we would finally see a great Steel Cage Warefare match between SCUM and the faction you mentioned again. Wow, just goes to show you, how simply good things might be put together, but I would replace Strong with Cole, he might be the perfect counterpart to O'Reilly

I might even go further SCUM gets all the titles: Corino and Jacobs the tag straps, O'Reilly (supposing he joins them, which would be awesome) gets the TV Title and Steen the World Title. Corino and Jacobs defend against the American Wolves, O'Reilly fihgts Cole for the TV Title and Generico is the one to dethrone Steen.

Great ideas. I want to see Roddy a face again.
