Farewell To Jerry Lynn

Postby Rooskie » Sat May 19, 2012 5:49 pm

This is, in all likelihood, the last year in the career of Jerry Lynn (as stated on the Art of Wrestling Podcast). Jerry Lynn's best days were in ECW, but Lynn has been a important player in ROH's history. Lynn was in the tournament to crown the first ROH Champ back in 2002 (the biggest name at that time in the tournament) and has appeared periodically over the years.

Jerry Lynn's ROH World Title reign was probably a bad idea, I think most folks agree. I wasn't totally opposed to Lynn having a short run with the belt, as he had a recognizable name and face when ROH was getting on TV. Plus he served to transition the belt from great heel champ Nigel to great heel champ Aries.

Here's the question: Would you like to see ROH bring Lynn in for one last match? If so, what would be your dream scenario? Personally, I'd love to see Jerry Lynn vs. Lance Storm at the next Chicago show, a throwback to their classic ECW PPV match at Anarchy Rules 1999.

Steen pins him in a non-title match with the cradle piledriver.

since there is nothing left to do for Davey after Best in the World, and ROH bookers are incapable of booking grudge feuds that are not for the strap, I would like to see a competitive Davey/Lynn match

Jerry Lynn Retirement Tour

Where Lynn gets to pick his last opponents (ROH and outsiders) on his way to his last match. A last match vs. Storm, Rhyno, Corino would be fun.

Then his last match is at the Hammerstein where he challenges RVD, his greatest foe to one last match, so he can finally try to beat him (and obviously he does).

Jerry Lynn in the Hammerstein one last time sounds good to me.

what the hell, give him a title match against Steen. He deserves it.
The fact that "no one" thinks he should have won the ROH title should command more respect for the fact that he still carried it through all the shit everybody laid down

I don't think he got his title rematch, did he?

I don't see why he wouldn't deserve a match with Steen on a house show, at the least.

I would totally accept Steen vs. Lynn to help on these shows that really need something. I think we all know what kind of shows I'm referring to.

The battle of the piledrivers would be neat.

Lynn deserves at least one more match in ROH before he retires. Unlike WGTT, he can actually still go in the ring and puts on decent to great performances.

I'd be somewhat interested in a Fit Finlay vs. Jerry Lynn match, not sure if that's ever happened before. That'd be a hell of an opponent to go out with.

For all of the (warranted) criticism thrown at Jerry, he does at least have a work ethic from bell to bell unlike Haas & Benjamin, who can't be bothered to come anywhere close to their 2003 work just because Triple H doesn't want them. (And hopefully he doesn't after their ROH resumes.)

Lynn should be the last stop on Elgin's road to Steen at FInal Battle. Elgin and Lynn tear it down and Elgin shows he's more than ready for Steen on the biggest stage in all of ROH.

I like that Elgin vs. Lynn idea a lot actually. Getting a win over a former ROH champ is a logical move.

The Lynn vs. Steen and Lynn vs. Elgin matches that have both been mentioned sound nice. ROH should do both!

Can't go wrong with Lynn vs. Elgin, I agree. Although I wouldn't mind a Lynn/Bennett-program.

Lynn vs Cole or O´Reilly sounds great to me, it passes the torch to a young talent and is a big win for them
