Honor Takes Center Stage : Night Two Preview

Ring of Honor returns to the Center Stage Theatre on Saturday for the second of their two big shows during the biggest weekend on the wrestling calendar. If you are unable to attend the shows live, you can watch both shows live on gofightlive.tv for $20 and if you enter “ROHWORLD” into the promo code box you have a chance of winning a signed poster by all the wrestlers on the card. Now let’s break down each match:

Dream Tag Team Match
The American Wolves (ROH World Champion Eddie Edwards and Davey Richards) vs. Wrestling’s Greatest Tag Team (Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas)

Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas debuted in Ring of Honor at ‘Glory by Honor IX’, it was a tough start for them as they faced the ROH Tag Team Champions The Kings of Wrestling. They face the Kings on night one for the Tag Team Titles but face another big challenge on the Saturday. Eddie Edwards became one of the few wrestlers to win the ROH World Championship at the first time of asking when he defeated Roderick Strong for the belt at ‘Manhattan Mayhem IV’ and will team up with his American Wolves partner Davey Richards for the first time in a while. WGTT have beaten the Kings, The Briscoes and The All Night Express so far in Ring of Honor and beating the Wolves would add another impressive scalp. Both Edwards and Richards have lots of momentum though so this should be a very interesting match-up that could go either way.

Tag Team Challenge Match
World Tag Team Champions The Kings of Wrestling (Chris Hero and Claudio Castagnoli) with Shane Hagadorn vs. Adam Cole and Kyle O’Reilly

The Kings of Wrestling have dominated the Ring of Honor tag team division for over a year and are the longest reigning ROH Tag Team Champions in history. They defend their belts against WGTT on night one and then face a different type of test on Saturday afternoon. They will face off against the young team of Adam Cole & Kyle O’Reilly in what has been billed as the biggest weekend of their careers. They’ve definitely been impressive in ROH and got a victory over the House of Truth at the ‘9th Anniversary Show’, they now take a step up as they face The Briscoes and the Kings in two days. The Kings will have to guard against complacency as Cole & O’Reilly could easily cause an upset if they are taken too lightly.

“SoCal Showdown II” Rematch
Roderick Strong with Truth Martini vs. El Generico

Roderick Strong is looking to bounce back this weekend after losing the ROH World Title to Eddie Edwards at ‘Manhattan Mayhem IV’. Strong has two big rematches as he takes on Davey Richards and El Generico knowing that two wins could put him right back in title contention. Winning both will be a very tough ask though and on night two, he faced “The Generic Luchadore” El Generico. Generico now knows that as Strong isn’t champion anymore, he can challenge for the World Title again and a win over the former champ would do him no harm at all. He has proved time and time again that he is a quality wrestler but needs to start winning big matches on a more consistent basis if he wants to be taken seriously as a World Title contender.

Grudge Tag Team Match
Jay and Mark Briscoe vs. The All Night Express

The Briscoes have hit a barren spell of late with two big losses against Wrestling’s Greatest Tag Team – which cost them a shot at the ROH Tag Team Titles – and The All Night Express. They didn’t react well to their defeat against ANX at ‘Manhattan Mayhem IV’ and attacked them after the match. The Briscoes’ new attitude will be on show when they take on Rhett Titus and Kenny King again at ‘Honor Takes Center Stage’. ANX have risen the tag team ranks at a fast rate in 2011 and narrowly lost out to the Kings of Wrestling at the ‘9th Anniversary Show’. They then went on to beat The Briscoes at ‘Manhattan Mayhem IV’ and look to keep their form going with another win.

Special Attraction
Colt Cabana vs. Dave Taylor

Colt Cabana has made his feelings quite clear – he wants competition. All he wants to do is show of the art of professional wrestling and he has been doing just that. He had a good match against Davey Richards at the ‘9th Anniversary Show’ but eventually came up short. Arguably the most entertaining man in the business today, Cabana received a challenge from Prince Nana and he duly accepted. Nana recently signed veteran Dave Taylor to join The Embassy and he will take on Cabana in his ROH debut. Taylor will give Cabana a very physical match, something which Cabana has been asking for. Cabana said he wouldn’t pass an opportunity like this up but with The Embassy by Taylor’s side, “Boom Boom” may fall victim to the numbers game.

Shimmer Tag Team Title Match
Daizee Haze & Tomoka Nakagawa defend vs. Hiroyo Matsumoto & Ayumi Kurihara

Ring of Honor announced that they would be bringing in both Matsumoto and Kurihara from Japanese promotion S-Ovation. They are two of the best women wrestlers in Japan and will take on newly crowned Shimmer Tag Team Champions Daizee Haze and Tomoka Nakagawa for the belts. Haze and Nakagawa won the belts from Matsumoto and her tag team partner Misaka Ohata after the pair held them for just one day. Haze and Nakagawa will be hoping their reign lasts a bit longer than that as Matsumoto and Kurihara hope to take the belts back to Japan with them.
