Ring of Honor has announced that Jay Lethal has come to terms of a contract with the company.
Lethal made his return to the company at “Best In the World 2011” in June in a victorious fashion by defeating “The Prodigy” Mike Bennett. He is set to challenge El Generico Saturday night for the ROH World Television Title during the first Sinclair Broadcast Group television tapings.
Lethal’s first run in Ring of Honor has to be considered a success. He competed in the company from 2003-2006 and fans watched him grow up in front of them. Lethal is a former ROH Pure Champion and held the belt for 63 before losing it to his mentor, Samoa Joe. Lethal also challenged for the Tag Team Titles on several different occasions, but was unable to win the belts.
Lethal will be a good wrestler to have on the roster as Ring of Honor moves into the Sinclair Broadcast Group television era. Fans that are not familiar with the product will see him on the television and recognize him. There is a good chance they will stop and watch his match and will hopefully be impressed with what they see. They could possibly watch the remainder of the show and Ring of Honor could possibly gain a new fan.
Lethal’s return also offers a variety of interesting match ups. Other than his match with Generico Saturday, there are many other wrestlers that could mesh well with Lethal and could be great matches. Personally, I would love to see Lethal wrestle a number of roster members, including Roderick Strong, Davey Richards, Michael Elgin, Kenny King and Adam Cole. There are a bunch of fresh matches to make now that Lethal has signed with the company.
Lethal’s return should be beneficial for both Lethal and Ring of Honor. Lethal makes his first appearance since signing the contract Saturday night as he challenges El Generico for the ROH World Television Title.
