Ladder of Honor : 17th February 2011

Hello and welcome to the second instalment of Ladder of Honor. This is where I look back at this week’s ROH on HDNet and assess who has come out of the show looking good and those not so good. So here is this week’s Ladder of Honor, based on the 14th February edition (click herefor a detailed recap) of ROH on HDNet.

“The Notorious 187” faced off against Mark Briscoe this week on ROH on HDNet. Mark is one half of one of the most feared tag teams in Professional Wrestling today – The Briscoes – so it was obvious that this was going to be a tough match. The #1 contender for the ROH World Championship suffered quite a lot of punishment during the match but finally won the match after an Ace Crusher off the top rope.

You’d have thought that Homicide would have taken the rest of the night off but not only did he return to the ring later on, he proceeded to call out the ROH World Champion – Roderick Strong. The pair who will face off for the ROH World Title at the 9th Anniversary Show then brawled until officials and security eventually managed to pull them apart. This was after Homicide had ripped Strong’s trousers off and left the World Champion humiliated.

Kyle O’Reilly

O’Reilly helped kick off the Top Prospects Tournament this week on ROH on HDNet. He faced off against Jon Gresham who was making his debut. O’Reilly, who along with partner Adam Cole forms one of the hottest young tag teams in the business today, used his array of kicks well to fend off the highly dangerous Gresham. Even when Gresham was on top, O’Reilly kept fighting back time and time again.

It’s obvious from his style that O’Reilly was trained by Davey Richards and he also showed another side to his game when he locked in a very impressive looking triangle choke which forced Gresham to tap out. After the bout, O’Reilly received plaudits from the onlooking Steve Corino and he has helped cement himself as the early frontrunner.

Roderick Strong

The ROH World Champion didn’t actually wrestle, but he certainly came out of the show looking like he might be relinquishing his title sooner rather than later. Homicide called him out and he responded by hitting the ring with his manager Truth Martini. This probably wasn’t the wisest decision Strong has ever made because as after an initial brawl, Homicide ripped the Champion’s trousers off. Strong and Martini scurried off as both were left looking red-faced.

Kenny King & Chris Hero

King and Hero were scheduled to face off in the Main Event but were pre-emptied by Homicide which meant that their match didn’t take place. Tension between King, one half of the All Night Express and Hero, a member of the Kings of Wrestling have soared in recent weeks but their match-up never got started.

It was announced afterwards that their match will take place next week alongside their partners, Rhett Titus and Claudio Castagnoli, going one-on-one in what should be a great show as both teams fight for the last bit of momentum going into the 9th Anniversary Show.
