Legendary former ROH World Champion, Nigel McGuinness, will make his return to active wrestling competition on November 12th 2011.
Ending an extended absence, enforced by an undisclosed health issue, Nigel will make his long-awaited in-ring return at the Great Miami Event Center in Hamilton, Ohio.
The event, promoted by the Heartland Wrestling Association in which Nigel cut his teeth, will mark the Englishman’s first competitive match, since being abruptly pulled from the card of TNA’s ‘No Surrender 2010’ pay-per-view.
Back in August, McGuinness returned to Ring of Honor, as a color commentator, for the tapings of the first set of SBG shows, and was received well by a fanbase that still holds fond memories of his grueling 545-day run with ROH’s top prize.
As the eventful tapings were coming to a close, Nigel almost found himself back in the thick of the action. As the House of Truth stable surrounded Eddie Edwards – a man who’s fighting spirit has drawn comparisons to Nigel, from many quarters – McGuinness was unable to restrain himself. The headstrong Brit entered the ring, looking to level the playing field and to uphold the Code of Honor.
Following this incident, ROH officials expressed their displeasure at Nigel’s actions. In a statement on ROHWrestling.com, company management described this potential insurance liability as “something that can’t happen again”, as long as McGuinness is contracted to act in a purely non-physical role.
