New Japan announced before the War of the Worlds PPV that they would crown the first IWGP United States Champion at the shows in Long Beach. It will be conducted under Round Robin rules. The shows in California will take place on July 1st and 2nd. Jay Lethal is the first announced talent in the tournament.
Both shows will air live on NJPW World. Jim Ross stated that AXS TV is set to announce their broadcast plans for the events on May 18th.
Approximately 2,150 to 2,200 tickets per show were initially put on sale, with them selling out within hours. Another set of seats were set on sale and were sold out within minutes.
It was also reported that the IWGP Intercontinental and IWGP Title will be defended at the shows.
