2011 has certainly been a year of ups and downs for El Generico. Coming off of the biggest win of his ROH career at Final Battle 2010, Generico marched into a SoCal Showdown ROH World Title match in January against then-champion Roderick Strong. He was promptly defeated. After scoring several big wins and getting on the hottest streak of his ROH career, Generico showed up to Best In The World in June, successfully taking the Television Title from Christopher Daniels. He lost it in his first defense to Jay Lethal.
Davey Richards, long considered both one of the best wrestlers in the world and the uncrowned ROH World Champion, is certainly no stranger to setbacks. Heavily favored in two iPPV main event title matches in 2010, Richards came up short on both occassions, an exercise in humility only trumped by his best friend and tag partner, Eddie Edwards, winning the title in his first opportunity. On the same night as Generico’s title triumph, Richards squared off with Edwards in his third heavily promoted iPPV shot at the title. There would be no further setbacks as Richards finally captured the ROH World Title in a 35 minute five star match.
Certainly these two are no strangers to each other. Going to war with each other in both singles and tag matches in the past, these two meet again with the ROH World Title on the line at Glory By Honor X November 19th in Chicago Ridge. With their parallel rollercoaster rides in 2011, coupled with the knowledge they have acquired of each other, one can definitely expect an all-out war this Saturday.
It’s every wrestlers dream to be World Champion. Richards and Generico have both struggled to reach the top in ROH, and both have managed to stake a claim there. It’s The Generic Luchador versus The Best In The World as ROH presents Glory By Honor X.
