On Friday June 24th in Baltimore, MA, Ring of Honor held a press conference that was full of announcements regarding the evolution of ROH. Below is a recap of everything that took place during the monumental afternoon.
The conference began at 1:00PM with the Chief Operating Officer of Ring of Honor, Joe Koff, outlining how the future for ROH will reach a much larger audience than ever before. The ROH President, Cary Silkin, thanked the Sinclair Broadcasting Group (who purchased ROH back in May) for taking Ring of Honor to the next level. He stated that “Ring of Honor is a product that needs to be seen”.
Jim Cornette, the Executive Producer of ROH, then took the podium. He made the huge announcement that wrestling would be taking center stage on Saturday September 24th, when ROH debuts on the SBG Stations. Cornette said ROH is the only promotion focused on taking wrestling forward into the 21st century.
Cornette then introduced many of the stars of Ring of Honor, before the ROH World Champion Eddie Edwards, and his challenger at this Sunday’s Best in the World iPPV, Davey Richards took the podium to discuss their huge title match this weekend.
Ring of Honor announcer Kevin Kelly then came out and outlined the fact that ROH puts a huge focus on their tag team division, saying that tag team wrestling isn’t a side show in ROH. One of the four teams that will be competing in the Elimination Tag-Team match, for the ROH World Tag Team Titles this Sunday at Best in the World then took the stage. Rhett Titus and Kenny King, the All Night Express, said that they would leave New York on Sunday as the new World Tag Team Champions.
The current ROH Tag Team Champions, Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin then took the podium to discuss defending their titles in the huge 4-Way Elimination Tag Team match this Sunday. However with the Briscoes also at the press conference, things quickly became out of hand as there was a heated altercation between the Briscoes and Wrestling’s Greatest Tag Team. Once they were separated the press conference was concluded with Jim Cornette, Cary Silkin and Joe Koff taking questions from the press.
The press conference showed that ROH is set to take pro-wrestling to the next level when it returns to TV on September 24th. And with a huge iPPV only days away, it looks like ROH is set to have one of its best years yet.
