The show begins with a recap Adam Cole and Michael Elgin’s match, including the dissension that is building in the House of Truth.
Kevin Kelly and Nigel McGuinness welcome us to the show and hype up the two March Mayhem matches tonight when Kyle O’Reilly takes on Tommaso Ciampa and Mike Bennett wrestles Eddie Edwards. We then get a recap of the March Mayhem tournament thus far.
Veda Scott is backstage with the Embassy Ltd. Ciampa says he doesn’t answer to anyone. He says the TV Title represents Jay Lethal’s manhood and he took it at the “10th Anniversary Show.”
Kyle O’Reilly vs Tommaso Ciampa w/ The Embassy Ltd.
The two wrestle to a standoff after O’Reilly connects with a dropkick and Ciampa hits a shoulder block. O’Reilly tries a pin after a series of kicks and only gets a one count. Ciampa gets a two count after a belly-to-belly overhead suplex. Ciampa lands a sick knee onto the back of O’Reilly’s head. Ciampa ties O’Reilly in the Tree of Woe and connects with a running knee strike. He goes for the pin, but O’Reilly kicks out at two. O’Reilly fights back with a belly-to-back suplex, and both men are down. O’Reilly hits a super back suplex, but it only seems to piss Ciampa off. O’Reilly hits a tilt-a-whirl DDT for a two count. O’Reilly hits a series of strikes, but Ciampa responds with a clothesline. O’Reilly reversed a Project Ciampa attempt into a guillotine. Ciampa powers out of the guillotine and attempts a suplex, but O’Reilly knees his way out of it. Ciampa connects with a knee directly to O’Reilly’s head and the referee calls for the bell as O’Reilly is out cold.
Winner by Knockout: Tommaso Ciampa
ROHWorld.com’s Thoughts: This was a good competitive match to open the show and continue the March Mayhem tournament. Both men looked really good in this match, and the victory made Ciampa look great without hurting O’Reilly too much. The knee that ended the match looked really crazy. It was a good solid match.
Davey Richards says O’Reilly not following the Code of Honor bothers him.
Proving Ground Match
Davey Richards vs Ryan McBride
There’s a pretty loud “Let’s go Ryan” chant before the match. Richards immediately charges McBride with a forearm smash and a knee strike. He connects with a running kick and then locks on the ankle lock. McBride has no choice but to tap, and this match is already over.
Winner by Submission: Davey Richards
ROHWorld.com’s Thoughts: A complete squash to make the ROH World Champion look good. There’s nothing much else to be said about it. The match may have lasted 30 seconds. Kevin Steen is up next.
Kevin Kelly is in the ring and introduces Kevin Steen. He asks Kelly why Ring of Honor is doing whatever they can to keep him from having a match. Kelly says it might be because he is a danger to everyone he wrestles. Steen says he’s tried to get Richards out there time and time again, but he hasn’t answered. He says someone may be holding back. He says Richards doesn’t hear him because his head is shoved too far up Cornette’s ass. Richards storms the ring and wants to fight, but officials hold him back. Richards says he’s coming for Steen’s head. Cornette says Steen just wants to screw the company over. Cornette says Steen isn’t going to get in the ring with Richards until he’s earned it in the ring. Richards slaps Steen and then is held back by officials.
It’s now time for this week’s Inside ROH. We get a recap of last week’s match between Wrestling’s Greatest Tag Team and Coleman and Alexander. Lethal says Lethal is tired of repeating history with the time limit draws. He says all Ciampa did by stealing the TV Title was piss him off.
Mike Bennett w/ Maria and Brutal Bob vs Eddie Edwards
After a quick feeling out process, Edwards gets control with an armdrag and submission. Edwards ties Bennett in the Tree of Woe and connects with a dropkick to the face. Edwards ties the baseball slide dropkick, but Maria gets in the way. This gives Brutal Bob the opportunity to backdrop Edwards across the barrier. Bennett is in full control of the match as the show goes to commercial.
Back from the break, and Bennett is still in control of the match. Edwards blocks a suplex attempt, and hits one of his own. Both men are slow to get back to their feet. They slug it out in the middle of the ring, and Edwards gets the advantage with a hurricarana. Edwards hits a missile dropkick from the top. He goes for the pin, but Bennett kicks out at two. Edwards kicks Bennett to the outside and connects with a suicide dive to Bennett. He then gets back in the ring and hits another suicide dive on Bob. Edwards goes for the backpack chinbreaker on the apron, but Bennett fights out and hits the spear on the apron. He rolls Edwards back into the ring and pins him, but he only gets a two count. Edwards hits a Falcon Arrow from the top, but Bennett kicks out! Edwards transitions the pin in an Achilles Lock, but Bennett is able to kick him off. Maria gets on the apron and Edwards runs into her, which allows Bennett to get the pin on Edwards. She was faking an injury of getting hit by Edwards to distract the ref. McGuinness gets the line of the night: “I’ve seen better acting on RedTube.”
Winner by Pinfall: Mike Bennett
ROHWorld.com’s Thoughts: This was a really good match. Everyone played their roles well and it delivered a good solid match and a good way to end this show. I normally don’t like endings like this, but something like what happened was needed for Bennett to believably defeat Edwards and not hurt any of Edwards’ credibility. Overall, it was just a really good match.
