ROH on SBG: 3/9/13 Report

The show opens up with a recap of Wrestling’s Greatest Tag Team breaking up last week.

Rhett Titus vs Eddie Edwards

Bobby Fish joins Kevin Kelly and Caleb Seltzer on commentary. They fight to a standoff after they both go for a dropkick at the same time. Edwards delivers a couple of hard chops in the corner. He ties Titus to the Tree of Woe and hits a series of dropkicks on him. Titus counters out of the chinchecker and connects a nice dropkick for a two count. Edwards fights back and hits a shining wizard for a two count. Titus turns Edwards inside out with a clothesline for a near fall. Edwards sends Titus to the floor and hits a moonsault from the apron. Edwards hits a series of chops in the corner. He finally connects with the chin-checker for a two count. Edwards places Titus on the top rope, but Titus tosses him over his head into the top turnbuckle. That was scary looking. Titus goes to the top and goes for a Frog Splash, but Edwards moves. Edwards hits a double stomp. He locks in the Achilles Lock and begins stomping on the head. The referee stops the match.

Winner by Ref Stoppage: Eddie Edwards

ROHWorld.com’s Thoughts: The match itself was fine, but it was nothing special. It was mainly a backdrop for Fish to get the redDRagon feud with the American Wolves over, which he did a good job of. Fish is a very good talker and obviously talented in the ring, so he should have a very bright future in the company. This was a decent opening match, but Edwards is capable of better.

Veda Scott is backstage with Davey Richards. Richards says Matt Hardy is really good at talking, but in Ring on Honor they don’t talk, they fight. He says he’s at the top of the food chain.

Michael Elgin talks about the main event Four Corner Survival match. He says he’ll let his actions do his talking.

Mia Yim vs MsChif

Veda Scott joins the commentary team for this match. MsChif quickly gets the advantage with a very impressive roll up attempt. It was like a reverse hurricarana but it was converted into a pin. Yim fights back with a Tarantula and a missile dropkick for a two count. Yim drapes MsChif across the top rope and kicks her repeatedly. MsChif does another hurricarana-type counter into a submission. A standing moonsault gets a nearfall for MsChif. Yim hits a perfect Lionsault but it only seems to piss MsChif off. She hits the final cut and follows it up with a German suplex. She sits Yim on the top rope. Yim grabs the arm and applies a rope-assisted armbar. Yim tries for Sky Yim but MsChif avoids it. MsChif hits the Desacrator to pick up the win.

Winner by Pinfall: MsChif

ROHWorld.com’s Thoughts: This was a pretty decent match, but it wasn’t anything you need to go out of your way to see. MsChif hit some pretty cool moves, and Yim looked good as always. It seems as if Ring of Honor is actually putting together a Women of Honor division, which is better than just having random matches. Whether ROH needs a Women of Honor division is another story, but at least they’re building to something.

Matt Ryan (bold move quitting football to be a backstage interviewer) is backstage with Roderick Strong. Strong calls him a pervert and says he’s going to win the Four Corner Survival match.

It’s now time for Inside ROH. We hear Steve Corino’s comments from National Pro Wrestling Day. He said the ROH everyone loves is dead. Jay Briscoe says Kevin Steen hasn’t beaten him or his brother. He says SCUM will have to kill the Briscoes to kill Ring of Honor.

Four Corner Survival
Roderick Strong vs Matt Hardy vs Davey Richards vs Michael Elgin

Nigel McGuinness joins Seltzer and Kelly on commentary. Strong and Richards start the match off. This is going to be tough to keep up with. After quickly trading holds, Hardy and Elgin tag in. Elgin sends Hardy reeling to the corner with a shoulder block. Strong tags himself in to get some cheap shots on Elgin, but he runs away and tags in Richards as soon as Elgin mounts some offense. Elgin and Richards go for a test of strength, which Elgin easily gets the advantage of and he throws Richards over his head. Strong once again jumps in the match when he can get some shots in on Elgin. Elgin turns the tide with a big running splash in the corner. Richards tags himself in, but is met by a dropkick from Strong. Strong tags in Hardy double team Richards as the show goes to commercial.

Back from the break and Hardy eats a missile dropkick from Richards. He hits a big superplex and goes for the pin, but Elgin pushes Richards off. Elgin and Richards trade shots and Elgin hits the Shock Treatment. Hardy catches Elgin with a side effect, but turns into a jumping knee strike from Strong. Richards counters out of a Twist of Fate. Elgin and Strong are fighting on the apron and Strong backdrops him onto the ring frame. Hardy connects with the Twist of Fate on Richards, but Todd Sinclair is outside checking on Elgin. Strong tags himself in. Richards tags in Elgin and he pounds away at Strong in the corner. A huge lariat gets a two count for Elgin. Elgin connects with an awesome backfist on Strong and hits the Elgin Bomb to pick up the win.

Winner by Pinfall: Michael Elgin

ROHWorld.com’s Thoughts: This match was hugely disappointing. It never developed any kind of flow or rhythm and was just a series of moves. It did an ok job of furthering the Matt Hardy feud with Nigel McGuinness, but that was about it.
