ROH on SBG: 6/15/13 Report

ROH World Tag Team Champions reDRagon and ROH World TV Champion Matt Taven vs C&C Wrestle Factory and Jay Lethal

The non-champions start the match off fast and they all hit suicide dives in unison. The champions get control of the match and work over Lethal. He fights off Taven and tags in Alexander who hits a nice series of moves, including a split legged moonsault. He and Coleman hit an awesome combination of double team moves on Fish. Taven hits a frog splash on Alexander but Lethal breaks up the pin. Every wrestler hits a flurry of moves and Lethal finishes it up with a Lethal Combination. C&C hit the Overtime on O’Reilly and they pick up the win!

Winners by Pinfall: C&C Wrestle Factory and Jay Lethal

ROHWorld.com’s Thoughts: This match was so much fun. The action really picked up down the stretch after Lethal made the hot tag and all six men were flying all over the place. This acted as a sort of preview for “Best in the World 2013″ for the two title matches, and if the matches at the iPPV are anything like this, the show is going to be great. This match was awesome, as would be expected with six wrestlers the caliber of the ones who wrestled here.

Jimmy Jacobs vs Kevin Steen

Jacobs meets Steen on the aisle way and the brawl in on. Jacobs uses his chain to choke Steen and refuses to let go and is DQ’d. Steen fights off officials and challenges Jaocbs to a No DQ match.

The match is back on and Steen launches an official over the top rope onto S.C.U.M. Jacobs whips Steen into a chair lodged in the corner and follows it up with a spear. Steen powerbombs Jacobs onto the corner of the ring frame and then connects with a Swanton Bomb. Jacobs counters a move into a Contra Code onto a steel chair. Jacobs brings a barricade into the ring. Steen hits the F Cinq, but Jacobs kicks out at two. Jacobs plants Steen onto the barricade. Steen low blows Jacobs and then hits the package piledriver on the barricade to pick up the win.

Winner by Pinfall: Kevin Steen

ROHWorld.com’s Thoughts: This match was awesome and exactly what you would expect out of Steen and Jacobs. It was smart to make this a No DQ as it gave them more freedom to continue the story of Steen’s hatred for S.C.U.M. There were some brutal spots throughout the match; none moreso than the package piledriver at the end. This was a very intense match.

ROH World Title
ROH World Champion Jay Briscoe defends vs BJ Whitmer

Tempers begin to flare after a feeling out process and they brawl on the floor. Whitmer his a leg lariat and sends the champion to the outside before hitting a big suicide dive. They slug it out in the middle of the ring and Whitmer gets a two count following a powerslam. Briscoe hits an awesome over-the-top neckbreaker from the second rope. Briscoe launches Whitmer over the top through a ringside table! Whitmer looked like he went head first through the table. That was sick! Briscoe hits the Jay Driller, but Whitmer kicks out! An exploder suplex gets a two count for the challenger. Briscoe locks in the dragon sleeper and Whitmer passes out in the hold.

Winner and STILL ROH World Champion: Jay Briscoe

ROHWorld.com’s Thoughts: The action in the closing minutes of this match was crazy. Whitmer crashing through the table was one of the scariest things I’ve ever seen in wrestling. He fell right on his head, and then he continued fighting. Whitmer is one of the toughest men in wrestling. Briscoe had a good showing as champion, which makes up for the disappointing match he had at “Border Wars 2013.” This was a good main event to cap off a quality show.
