ROH TV EP485

Sam’s Town Hotel & Gambling Hall – Las Vegas, NV – Friday, January 1, 2021

We open with some still photos and commentary from Final Battle 2020, revealing the results. That’s a good way to start the show.

Quinn McKay then welcomes us to this very special episode, which will take an inside look at the weekend in March when travel and gathering restrictions were first put in place due to COVID-19, right as ROH was to present their anniversary show and a past v present show. We’ll see two matches that were taped that weekend but have never been aired. Also, over the course of the show, we get interviews with some of the talent, including Matt Taven, Flip Gordon (who sucks, like, a lot, as person), Cheeseburger, Beer City Bruiser, Session Moth Martina, Amy Rose, Mark Briscoe, and Slex.

Ian Riccaboni is on commentary.

~MATCH #1~
Flip Gordon defeats Bandido at 9:25. Bandido is one-third of the ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champions, along with Flamita and Rey Horus. They wrestle back and forth to start, and Gordon strikes first by sending Bandido to the floor and teasing a dive. Back in the ring Bandido gains control and now he sends Gordon outside. Gordon pulls Bandido to the floor and we take a commercial break. When we come back Gordon is throwing Bandido around ringside, into the barricades and such. Back in the ring Gordon continues the beating. Bandido makes a comeback but Gordon quickly cuts him off. I’m actually a little surprised at how little Bandido is getting here. In the end, Gordon catches Bandido in the Flip-5 to get the pin. Fine match for the most part, but not as competitive as I would’ve expected.
Rating: **½

~MATCH #2~
Mark Haskins (w/ Vicky Haskins) defeats Jay Lethal at 8:44. Both men are surprisingly aggressive right from the start. They chain wrestle with ferocity, trading holds and counters. Haskins takes the first advantage by targeting Lethal’s arm, and we go to commercial. When we come back Lethal is fighting up and they take it to the floor, where he hits a Lethal Injection! Back in the ring it’s not enough for Lethal to get the pin. Both men continue to fight, pulling out all the stops. Lethal tries Hail to the King, but Haskins catches him and turns it into the Rings of Haskins, and Lethal is able to make the ropes and break the hold. Haskins is determined, and he locks Lethal in a Sharpshooter plus an arm trap to get the submission win. Quite the spirited match there, and Haskins even taunts Lethal after the win. Hopefully Haskins can make it back to ROH TV soon.
Rating: ***½

We head over to Quinn McKay, who provides details about how ROH has handled production in the wake of the pandemic. It feels like they’ve done a great job, honestly.

Lastly, Maria Kanellis returns to ROH and announces the return of The Experience, which as far as I can tell is a hashtag where fans can tell ROH what they want to see in 2021.

JZ Says
An interesting episode, and a good time to show those unseen matches, since it was a holiday. Haskins v Lethal was actually very good, and it made me really excited to see him when he makes his way back.
