Tommaso Ciampa Missing Time Due to Injury
After sustaining a knee injury at the start of his two out of three falls match against Jay Lethal at Boiling Point in Providence, RI, “The Sicilian Psychopath” Tommaso Ciampa’s immediate future was in question.
Ciampa had hoped to compete at the upcoming September ROH events scheduled for Charlotte, Chicago Ridge, and Baltimore but ROH officials have learned that the injury is possibly more severe that first thought,” read the official Ring of Honor web site. “Perhaps even a severe ACL tear.”
There’s no telling how long Ciampa would be out of action if the injury did turn out to be something as serious as an SCL tear, but it is safe to assume that he would at least miss Survival of the Fittest on 9/22 in Baltimore, MD.
Ciampa took to Twitter earlier today after receiving the results of an MRI. “Really sh**y news today,” he wrote. “Knee is mangled. Looks like I’ll be takin some time away. Thanks for the support. Will write more when up for it.”
With the results just coming in today, we don’t have a time table for Ciampa’s return. We’ll pass on any information as we receive it.
Our positive thoughts go out to Ciampa as he undergoes what will hopefully be a speedy and unencumbered recovery.
The Charlotte, NC, show on 9/8 will be headlined by Rhett Titus and the Briscoe Brothers teaming up to face Jimmy Jacobs, Steve Corino, and the ROH world champion Kevin Steen in a “six man steel cage war.” Plus, Wrestling’s Greatest tag team reunites since Shelton Benjamin’s storyline suspension ended on 8/30 to face Michael Elgin and Roderick Strong. Expect something whacky to go down before or during this match, since Strong is currently on a storyline strike from the House of Truth. Plus, Kyle O’Reilly vs. Adam Cole in a Best in the World rematch with proving ground implications, Caprice Coleman and Cedric Alexander vs. the Bravados, Jay Lethal vs. Adam Page, and “No Fear” Mike Mondo vs. “God’s Gift” QT Marshall.
Death Before Dishonor X Two Weeks Away
Ring of Honor’s return to Chicago Ridge, IL, will be streamed on internet pay-per-view at the ROH web site. The card looks considerably more stacked than Boiling Point in terms of matches that fans will want to plop down money to see.
Full previews coming to ROHWorld.com as the show approaches. Not accounting for any last-minute additions to the card, here is the card for 9/15.
* Kevin Steen defending the Ring of Honor world championship against Rhino.
* Adam Cole defending the Ring of Honor television championship against “No Fear” Mike Mondo.
* ACH making his Ring of Honor debut against Kyle O’Reilly. Expect great things from this match.
Plus, the semi-finals and finals of the tag team title tournament, and the return of Davey Richards.
Survival of the Fittest Draws Nearer
As if those two shows aren’t enough, Ring of Honor will be coming right back on 9/22 for the final set of Baltimore television tapings of the year.
This show features the traditional Survival of the Fittest tournament. Here are the competitors thus far:
- Current television champion (depending on the outcome of 9/15) Adam Cole,
- Survival of the Fittest 2011 winner “Unbreakable” Michael Elgin
- Jay Lethal
- Survival of the Fittest 2005 winner Roderick Strong
- “The Prodigy” Mike Bennett
- Kyle O’Reilly
- Rhino (provided he doesn’t win the title on 9/15)
- “No Fear” Mike Mondo
- QT Marshall.
