ROHWorld Weekend Roundup (12/15/12)

Final countdown to Final Battle

“Final Battle” takes place this Sunday from the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City at 2PM EST, and it promises to be one of, if not the, most stacked cards of the year.

Click here for a full preview of the show.

Aside from its massive main event, “Final Battle” presents Ring of Honor with an opportunity to solidify a turn-around in quality for 2012. Earlier in the week fellow ROHWorld columnist Matt Gibson pointed out to me that, at the end of last year’s “Final Battle“, Nigel McGuinness in accordance with storyline commented that, “Ring of Honor is in for a terrible 2012.” McGuinness had no idea how real his words would be, with ROH experiencing a year that can only be described as “Turbulent.”

But with the recent changing of the creative guard came an immediately noticeable change in the ROH product with Glory by Honor XI. It’s difficult to assume Delirious’ vision single handedly made that show great, but with Jim Cornette officially on sabbatical from the company and control entirely in Delirious’s court, the ROH booker has a chance to outshine his old-school predecessor and take the company back to a place of high esteem within the wrestling community.

“Final Battle” to stream with bells and whistles.

Ring of Honor announced Thursday it had signed an agreement with online video streaming platform Ooyala, with “Final Battle” serving as the first Ooyala-powered stream.

In a press release announcing the deal, ROH said the agreement would significantly fix load times, vary bit-rate streaming across multiple devices, allow viewers to pause and rewind live streams, and make replays available immediately following the live showing. In the past, fans have had to wait over 24 hours for IPPV replays to be made available.

The rest of Ring of Honor’s video content, including television and older IPPV replays, will begin migrating over to the Ooyala platform over the next month, the statement said.
