Ring of Honor taped their second set of TV tapings last night in Louisville, KY. With the TV show debuting last Saturday, ROH looks to continue their impressive start. Back in the home town of the ‘Louisville Slugger’ Jim Cornette and with a stacked card in store, here are the spoilers:
The American Wolves defeated Michael Elgin & Roderick Strong
These two teams have faced off before and went at it again for TV. People were saying this was easily the match of the night and we might end up seeing the HoT team more regularly. Truth Martini got involved and this allowed Michael Elgin to hit his spinning powerbomb on Davey. Edwards helped his partner out though and choked Elgin out which allowed Davey to pick up the win for the Wolves.
The Young Bucks defeated The Bravados
The Young Bucks have really made an impression since returning to ROH and defeated the promising Bravados once more. The Bravados were getting a good reaction from the crowd and it would seem the Bucks are turning into legit heels. They hit the ‘More Bang For Your Buck’ and refused to shake hands after the match.
Eddie Edwards cut a promo talking about how he will face Davey Richards for the ROH World Title at ‘Final Battle 2011’. Edwards tells us that he has a new coach and when people were chanting ‘Next World Champ’, they were chanting it at him. Davey came out and confirmed the match. The beginnings of an Eddie heel turn?
Wrestling’s Greatest Tag Team defeated C&C Wrestling Factory
Caprice Coleman and Cedric Alexander have started tagging semi-regularly in ROH and got another chance to face the best as they took on ROH World Tag Team Champions Charlie Haas & Shelton Benjamin. This was a challenge match with a time limit which made this a fast paced match. WGTT got the win in the end with a double powerbomb.
Both Tommaso Ciampa and Michael Elgin got dominating wins over ‘jobbers’
The Briscoe Brothers defeated The All Night Express
If you thought Ladder War III was the end of it, you’re completely wrong! The Briscoes came out earlier and cut a promo demanding one more match to see who got the Tag Team title shot at ‘Final Battle 2011’. These two teams slugged it out once more in a great match and the end came when Jay Briscoe interrupted an attempted doomsday device from ANX. Mark Briscoe rolled Rhett Titus up for the three. The Briscoes will now face WGTT at ‘Final Battle 2011’. ANX cut a promo later on demanding that they were given another chance.
Roderick Strong defeated Kyle O’Reilly
Strong is coming off a whole list of defeats both in singles and tag team matches so really needed a win to start some momentum. He faced off against one half of Future Shock – Kyle O’Reilly. This was said to be a fantastic match with the end coming when Strong hit four elbows followed by a nasty Sick Kick. Following the match, Michael Elgin came down and attacked O’Reilly until Davey Richards intervened. With Richards struggling, Eddie Edwards came down to make the save. Jim Cornette wasn’t happy with the HoT.
ROH World TV Championship
Jay Lethal (c) fought Mike Bennett to a draw
Mike Bennett got another shot at the TV title after his impressive form recently. This was Lethal’s first defence after he beat El Generico at the first set of TV tapings. This was better than expected according to some with the match ending in a 15-minute time limit draw. Lethal pleaded for five more minutes but Bennett walked away in true heel fashion.
TJ Perkins defeated Mike Mondo
TJ Perkins made his return to ROH and I an only hope that with him featuring on the TV show, he’ll become a more regular fixture in the company. He defeated another returning man – Mike Mondo. Perkins grabbed the win with a roll up.
