ROH promised surprises at the first ever Sinclair Broadcasting Group television tapings. Many people were wondering what they might be and quite a few guessed at potential returns.
To the delight of many an ROH fan, Ring of Honor legend Nigel McGuinness returned to the company on Saturday night in Chicago Ridge, IL.
McGuinness has come back to the company that he has experienced the most success in, but for now, he is just a commentator.
Kevin Kelly introduced Nigel and the Brit joined Kelly on commentary for the first tapings. A very shrewd move and these two will no doubt make up the best commentary team on any wrestling program.
It’s common knowledge that McGuinness is not allowed to wrestle. He had been in TNA for the past couple of years but has recently been off camera. There have been rumors of things from concussions to hepatitis but all we know is that his work at the moment in limited to outside the ring.
The Charismatic Englishman is a former ROH World Champion as well as a former Pure Champion. He has competed in some of the best matches in ROH history and is widely regarded as a Ring of Honor legend.
It’s a shame that Nigel’s excellent wrestling ability won’t be on show at the moment but after he saved Eddie Edwards from a potential House of Truth beatdown at the end of Saturday’s tapings, who knows what the future holds for Nigel?
At the moment, all we can do is be glad that one of the finest Ring of Honor performers of all time is back where he belongs.
