Kevin Steen will finally get his hands on Matt Hardy on June 22 as the two collide live on iPPV at ‘Best In The World 2013′.
Hardy replaced Steen as the main player in SCUM after he joined the group at the ’11th Anniversary Show’. Steen would go on to lose his ROH World Title to Jay Briscoe at ‘Supercard of Honor VII’ after Hardy, and other members of SCUM, tried to interfere.
Shortly after on ROH TV, Steen and SCUM parted ways and ‘Mr Wrestling’ was on the end of a twist of fate from the former WWE superstar after saying he was the one part of the plan he couldn’t understand.
Desperately trying to prove he is now fully behind ROH, Steen got involved in the ROH v SCUM tag team match at ‘Border Wars’ after Jay Lethal suffered an injury. Steen was placed into the match as Michael Elgin’s partner but unfortunately took the loss after being rolled up by Jimmy Jacobs. That defeat meant Steve Corino would join the commentary team and one member of SCUM would get an ROH World Title shot.
That man, of course, is Matt Hardy. Corino has said that Hardy will be the last ROH World Champion ever. He recently wrote in a blog: “It has been written, by me, that Matt Hardy will the next and LAST World champion in the 11 year history of Ring of Honor…. 100 years from now, fans will never remember Ki, Xavier, Joe, Aries, Punk, Gibson, Danielson, Homicide, Morishima, Lynn, Black, Strong, Edwards, Richards, Steen, and especially Nigel McGuinness.”
Hardy will get his shot the day after ‘Best In The World 2013’ at the TV tapings also in Baltimore. The day before, Steen has the chance to get revenge on the man he so evidently dislikes and the group he helped build. Not only can he get revenge but by hurting Hardy, he can help make sure he doesn’t become ROH World Champion the following day.
Steen has beaten Rhett Titus and Jimmy Jacobs and has Rhino soon in his sights. Matt Hardy is next in line and this should be an intense match with plenty of repercussions. Will Steen take out Hardy or will the self proclaimed ‘ICON’ get a victory on his way to the World Title? We’ll find out in Baltimore!
