Survival of the Fittest ’11 Details can report that Ring of Honor’s annual tradition, the ‘Survival of the Fittest’ tournament, will return on November 18th.

The fan favourite one-night tournament begins with six qualifying matches, the winners of which advance to a six-man elimination grande finale. The last man standing is granted a guaranteed ROH World Championship match, at a time of his choosing.

The first ever ‘Survival of the Fittest’ tournament was held on June 2004, in Essington, PA. Now-superstar names; such as Alex Shelley, Austin Aries, Samoa Joe and Bryan Danielson; battled it out for the ultimate career opportunity, with the “American Dragon” coming out on top, that night

Names like Delirious, Chris Hero, Tyler Black have since come out of the yearly tournament with the priceless title shot in their back pocket. Surprisingly, in light of the starstudded list of names that have survived the competition,  2010 winner Eddie Edwards has, thus far, been the only one to successfully cash in his championship chance. Edwards did so, at the expense of Roderick Strong, at ‘Manhattan Mayhem IV’, back in March.

Eddie raised the bar, in New York City, proving that a ‘Survival of the Fittest’ win is not only a springboard into contention but a legitimate chance for an up-and-coming wrestling to shock the world.

Dayton, Ohio, has played host to many historic ROH moments, in the past decade:

– In 2004, the 1st  one-hour classic, between Samoa Joe & CM Punk, at ‘World Title Classic’.

– In 2005, James Gibson bringing the Summer of Punk to an end.

– In 2006, BJ Whitmer and Necro Butcher’s brutal barbed wire war, bringing the epic ROH-CZW feud to a close.

– In 2008, Tyler Black breaking out as a main event singles star, against ROH Legend Bryan Danielson.

With Dayton’s Montgomery County Fairgrounds being announced as the host venue for ‘Survival of the Fittest 2011’, the event promises to deliver more unforgettable moments, to ROH fans old and new.

ROH Academy Graduate Andy ‘Right Leg’ Ridge won a pre-qualifying match, against Grizzly Redwood, prior to the ‘Death Before Dishonor IX’ iPPV, to become the first man on the list of 12 competitors, in this years tournament.

With 11 top names still to come, who is your early pick to be the sole survivor?
