Survival of the Fittest Finals
Survival of the Fittest 2011 Winner: Michael Elgin
The winner of the Survival of the Fittest tournament gets a guaranteed shot at the ROH World Title and can call himself the fittest man in Ring of Honor. Eddie Edwards won the tournament last year and subsequently went on to become ROH World Champion at ‘Manattan Mayhem IV’. The fans absolutely loved this one and surprisingly, it was left with the two up and coming stars – O’Reilly and Elgin. The pair slugged it out for 20 minutes with the crowd going wild before Elgin got the win with a spinning sit-out powerbomb.
ROH World Tag Team Champions Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin defeated ROH World Champion Davey Richards and ROH World TV Champion Jay Lethal
This match took a while to get going but when it did, it was great. All four champions in ROH went at it in a real showcase of talent. Towards the end of the match, Benjamin and Richards slugged it out on the outside which left Haas and Lethal in the ring. Haas managed to lock in the Haas of Pain submission hold on Lethal who tapped out. Brilliant match.
Roderick Strong defeated Rhett Titus
In the final SOTF qualifier before the finals, Roderick Strong booked his place with a victory over Rhett Titus. Titus might have had one eye on he and Kenny King’s title shot the following night at ‘Glory by Honor X’. Said to have been a great match, Strong got the win with the Sick Kick.
Steve Corino with Jimmy Jacobs vs El Generico went to a draw
This was a non tournament match that was initially set to take place at ‘Death Before Dishonor IX’ before Corino pulled out and went to Japan. The match finally took place and ended in a time limit draw. Corino refused to use any underhand tactics despite Generico willing him to. Cornette came to the ring afterwards and said Corino couldn’t take anymore after receiving two brainbusters so there would be no overtime. Generico shook Corino’s hand.
Michael Elgin defeated Kenny King, Adam Cole & Tommaso Ciampa
Said to have been a very good match that really showcased Elgin’s power and made Kenny King look impressive too. Elgin got the victory after a spinning sit-out powerbomb on Cole. Because Ciampa didn’t directly get pinned, his undefeated streak continues.
Eddie Edwards defeated Mike Bennett
Bennett was without his manage ‘Brutal’ Bob Evans in this one but still put on a good showing against the first ever Triple Crown winner in ROH. Edwards picked up the win in this hard-hitting match with his newly acquired submission move the Dragon Sleeper.
Kyle O’Reilly defeated Andy “Right Leg” Ridge
Very solid match between these two very hard-hitting guys. Lots of kicks during this match which was to be expected. O’Reilly got the victory after making Ridge tap out to a guillotine choke.
The Briscoes defeated The Bravado Brothers
The opening match of the night and the first SOTF qualifier. The winning team would move onto the finals and the Bravados had a tough task ahead of them against ‘Dem Boys’. The Briscoes picked up the win after a Doomsday Device.
