Ring of Honor fans have been seeing an influx of CHIKARA wrestling talent since two of CHIKARA’s biggest stars, Jigsaw and Hallowicked, defeated the Briscoes in a Proving Ground match at “Homecoming 2012” in January. The comic book-like characters of CHIKARA have made an impact in Ring of Honor since then. They had a presence on the “10th Anniversary Show” and are expected to have an appearance on the “Showdown In the Sun” Internet pay-per-views. CHIKARA’s involvement with Ring of Honor is expected to come to a head at “Synergy” in Chicago in April. There are some familiar faces to Ring of Honor fans on the CHIKARA roster, but there are also some not-so-familiar faces, too. This will be a basic introduction to some of the CHIKARA wrestlers who have appeared recently in Ring of Honor, and some who are expected to be on the “Synergy” shows.
Kingston is no stranger to Ring of Honor competition, as he was on the roster from 2006 through 2009. This run included being a part of Team CZW in the interpromotional war, as well as appearing with the BLKOUT stable. Kingston’s most notable feud was with Chris Hero in 2009. The feud contained many brutal matches, including the feud-culminating “Fight Without Honor” at “Final Battle 2009,” which Kingston won.
Kingston made his return to Ring of Honor at the “10th Anniversary Show” when he called out ROH World Champion Davey Richards. Kevin Steen answered his call instead. Steen offered Kingston the chance to take down Ring of Honor and CHIKARA with him, but Kingston refused to help take down CHIKARA. This resulted in a brawl between the two.
Kingston has had great success in CHIKARA, where he became the inaugural Grand Champion in November 2011. Kingston won the “12 Large: Summit” tournament by defeating Mike Quackenbush in the finals of the tournament to be crowned the first Grand Champion. Kingston has since successfully defended the belt again Vin Gerard, who was the only wrestler to defeat Kingston during the tournament. Kingston will be heart and passion that is unmatched by anyone in professional wrestling when he steps into a Ring of Honor ring.
Jigsaw is another CHIKARA wrestler who has appeared in Ring of Honor in the past. Jigsaw’s Ring of Honor run was from 2007 to 2008 when he was a member of the Vulture Squad. Jigsaw returned to Ring of Honor at “Homecoming 2012” in January when he and Hallowicked defeated the Briscoes in a “Proving Ground” match to earn a tag title match, which will be held at “Synergy.”
Jigsaw is no stranger to championship gold, as he has held numerous titles in CHIKARA. Jigsaw was the third CHIKARA Young Lions Cup champion, which is a title that is reserved for wrestlers under the age of 25. He was defeated by Larry Sweeney in the finals to crown the second Young Lions Cup champion, but later avenged the loss by defeating Sweeney to capture the cup. Jigsaw was also on the team that won CHIKARA’s first King of Trios, which has become one of the most anticipated wrestling tournaments each year. Jigsaw, along with Mike Quackenbush and Shane Storm, defeated four other trios, which included The BLKOUT, Team TNA and Kaientai Dojo, to win the 2007 King of Trios tournament. Jigsaw has also held CHIKARA’s tag team titles, the Campeonatos de Parejas, with Quackenbush. The team held the belts for the better part of 2011. Jigsaw is looking to add another championship to his long list of accomplishments when he teams with Hallowicked at “Synergy.”
Known as “The Nightmare Warrior” among the CHIKARA faithful, Hallowicked has appeared in Ring of Honor in the past. He had a run from about 2006 through 2008, but failed to make much of an impact. He did make an impact, however, alongside Jigsaw at “Homecoming 2012” in January. He will be Jigsaw’s partner when they challenge the Briscoes for the ROH World Tag Team Titles at “Synergy.”
Hallowicked has had a great deal of success in CHIKARA. He became the first Young Lions Cup champion when he defeated Mister ZERO in the tournament finals in 2002. He held the Young Lions Cup for 602 days. Hallowicked has also held the Campeonatos de Parejas, with his partner Delirious. The team, known as Incoherence, had the second longest reign in CHIKARA history. Like Jigsaw, Hallowicked is looking to add to his list of accomplishments by defeating the Briscoes at “Synergy.”
There are more wrestlers expected to appear at “Synergy,” but the three wrestlers listed above have had the most impact. “Synergy” takes place April 28 at the Chicago Fieldhouse in Chicago Ridge, Ill.
