Two huge title matches were set for “Best in the World: Hostage Crisis” on June 24 during the latest episode of ROH television.
During the Inside ROH segment, the ROH World Tag Team Title match was announced. It will be Wrestling’s Greatest Tag Team of Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin defending the titles against the All Night Express of Kenny King and Rhett Titus.
King and Titus challenged Haas and Benjamin for the ROH World Tag Team Titles in Richmond, Va. On May 19, but were unable to capture the titles after Haas got his team intentionally disqualified. ROH has since put a sanction on Wrestling’s Greatest Tag Team that will cause them to lose the belts if they are disqualified during a title match. That sanction adds a new wrinkle to the match, and could possibly give Titus and King an advantage.
The announcement for the main event of “Best in the World: Hostage Crisis” was announced later in the show. It will be ROH World Champion Kevin Steen defending his belt against former champion Davey Richards. Much like when Steen defeated Richards for the title at “Border Wars,” this has been announced as Richards only title opportunity. Unlike “Border Wars,” however, Jim Cornette and Kyle O’Reilly will be in attendance, and it has to be safe to assume they will do anything to get the belt of Steen. With Jimmy Jacobs and Steve Corino in his corner, Steen has backup of his own if he needs it.
“Best in the World: Hostage Crisis” takes place Sunday June 24 from the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City, and will stream live on ROHWrestling.com.
